The stones were then put in place in the temple.<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/prstevens.stonehippo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_5506.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2275\" alt=\"IMG_5506\" src=\"http:\/\/prstevens.stonehippo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_5506.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"514\" srcset=\"https:\/\/prstevens.stonehippo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_5506.jpg 640w, https:\/\/prstevens.stonehippo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_5506-300x240.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><strong>Rath is standing on a block of laterite. \u00a0When moist, laterites can be easily cut with a spade into regular-sized blocks.\u00a0\u00a0Laterite is mined while it is below the water table, so it is wet and soft.\u00a0Upon exposure to air it gradually hardens as the moisture between the flat clay particles evaporates and the larger iron salts\u00a0lock into a rigid <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a title=\"Crystal structure\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crystal_structure#Lattice_systems\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">lattice structure<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0and become resistant to atmospheric conditions\u00a0Historically, laterite was cut into brick-like shapes and used in monument building. Many various conclusions from many scholars about the meaning of this towers. The temple is noted for it&#8217;s huge trees growing and engulfing the structure. \u00a0You may also know it as the temple in the &#8220;Laura Croft &#8211; Tomb Raider&#8221; movie. They can&#8217;t be removed now because, in most cases, the trees are holding up the structure!
